  • LHCA elected seven members to join its Board of Directors and a new association co-chair during its 2nd Annual Meeting and Convention, held October 14-15, in Chicago, Illinois. The hybrid meeting also reinforced the U.S. leather industry's robust sustainability initiatives and commitment to continuous improvement, while showcasing LHCA's groundbreaking international marketing campaign that is delivering engaging content about leather's versatility, beauty and natural characteristics to a global consumer audience. Monthly Data

  • The Monthly Livestock Slaughter report is now available. September 2021 cattle slaughter totaled 2.79 million head, down 1 percent from September 2020. Review a summary of the data here.
  • Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market as of October 1, 2021, totaled 11.6 million head. The inventory was 1 percent below October 1, 2020. Read the report here

  • LHCA joined 170 U.S. food and agriculture organizations calling for the swift confirmation of Elaine Trevino to serve as Chief Agriculture Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. More here.

Weekly Hides and Skins Stats 

  • Net sales of cured cattle hides reported for the period ending October 14, 2021, were 415,700 pieces and net sales of wet blue were 150,500 pieces. Reported shipments of cured hides were 472,100 and of wet blue were 227,900. China was the largest buyer of cured hides and Italy was the largest destination for wet blue. See more.   • U.S. Cattle Slaughter was 661,000 last week, an increase of 2.3 percent from the previous week. Total cattle slaughter in 2021 is 26,938,000 head, up 3.1 percent from the same period in 2020. See more.
  • USDA AMS Major Packer Hide Price Report provided prices for two types of hides at two price points, with a spread of $33 for Colorado branded steers to $35 for heavy Texas steers. See more.
