Monthly Livestock Slaughter

  • The Monthly Livestock Slaughter report is now available. October 2021 cattle slaughter totaled 2.85 million head, down 3 percent from October 2020. Review a summary of the data here.

  • Congress this week is expected to pass another continuing resolution to extend government funding -- likely into January -- while legislators attempt to negotiate funding for the remainder of the fiscal year, which ends September 30. More here
  • The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced another one-week delay in the implementation of their Excessive Container Dwell fee, which was set to take effect November 22. Read more.

Weekly Hides and Skins Stats 

  • Net sales of cured cattle hides reported for the period ending November 18, 2021, were 443,100 pieces and net sales of wet blue were 30,500 pieces. Reported shipments of cured hides were 357,700 and of wet blue were 104,600. China was the largest buyer of cured hides and Italy was the largest destination for wet blue. See more.   • U.S. Cattle Slaughter was 566,000 last week, an decrease of 16.4 percent from the previous week. Total cattle slaughter in 2021 is 30,157,000 head, up 2.9 percent from the same period in 2020. See more.
  • USDA AMS Major Packer Hide Price Report provided prices for seven types of hides at seven price points, with a spread of $14 for branded southwest cows to $43 for native steers. See more.
